William P. Spencer

William Paul Spencer was born March 4, 1943 to Paulin Spencer and Floy Sutton Spencer in Hazlehurst, Mississippi.   He was the only child to this union. At a very young age he professed a hope in Christ and became a member of the Chapel Hill Baptist Church in Mississippi. His mother gave him the nick name of “Happy Head” at a very young tender age as he was always smiling. At the age of fourteen his mother Floy passed away.

William Paul loved to sing and dance as a teen and dress. He always had split shines on his shoes and freshly starched iron shirts.

William graduated from Parrish High School. In 1962 He married Joy Little and to this Union four sons were born. He later relocated to Columbus Ohio with his wife and children and worked at the Mills Restaurant and Len Immke Buick.

William united with the Mount Hermon Baptist Church under the pastorate of Bishop Donald J. Washington and often attended the noon day Bible study until his health failed him.

William later married Shirley Ann Washington of Hazlehurst, they had no children together. William loved his sons and grandchildren. He could always be found going fishing with his cousins and enjoyed cooking as well as watching his favorite football teams The Cleveland Browns and Dallas Cowboys.

William departed this earthly life on Monday, July 30, 2018 as he slept away in the arms of his Savior.

William is preceded in death by his parents.

William is survived by four sons, Anthony, Dennis, Derris, and William Spencer of Columbus, Ohio; brothers, Bennie Frank Spencer and Jimmy Paul Spencer; sisters, Sue Spencer, Sandra Spencer, and Jackie Spencer all of Hazlehurst, Mississippi; former wives; Shirley Washington Spencer and Joy Spencer; mother of his children, fifteen grandchildren, seventeen great grand-children, special friend; Nell and  a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation 2:00pm and Funeral 3:00pm Saturday, August 4, 2018 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE NORTH, 2500 Cleveland Ave.
